"The CHAPEAU series of drawings is inspired by French crime films, particularly the works of Jean-Pierre Melville. I am fascinated by the allure of Melville's characters, many of whom wear hats and exude a sense of mystery and professionalism. These drawings are inspired by some of my favorite French crime films, such as À Bout de Souffle (1960), Le Doulos (1962), Classe Tous Risques (1960), Le Samouraï (1967), Bob le flambeur (1956), Touchez pas au grisbi (1954), and Le deuxième souffle (1966)."
