My parents are Rwandese, but my siblings and I were raised in Zaire and we were fortunate to not be in Rwanda during the 1994 Genocide. When I moved to London, however, I became obsessed with the Genocide and wanted to understand how such an atrocity could be possible. I read books and watched documentaries on the subject, and soon became tormented by the horrors and images of skulls and violence that I saw. Being a graphic designer by trade, I started creating beautiful skulls to help me get rid of the negative connotations that are normally associated with images like these. I now see beauty in the Skulls I create, a sort of new beginning, a rebirth from death.
